Q. What is social bookmarking?

A. Social bookmarking is the practice of saving bookmarks to a public Web site and “tagging” them with descriptive keywords. To create social bookmarks for yourself, you register with a social bookmarking site, which lets you store bookmarks. Then, over time, you can add bookmarks, and designate your personal bookmarks as public or private. Visitors to social bookmarking sites can search for resources by keyword, popularity or person.

As a webmaster, having your site pages listed popular bookmarking networks can help boost your site traffic.

Q. What does SocialBookmarkIt.com do?

A. SocialBookmarkIt.com provides your visitors with a single link to all the major social bookmarking sites.

You can either use the generic link code or create an account. With an account, you can track of what and how often your pages are bookmarked. Also, your bookmark page is customizable.

Either way, you don't have to worry about setting up links or keeping up with social bookmarking APIs.

With SocialBookmarkIt.com, you can create text links
or icons ( like this: )allowing vistors to easily bookmark your website.

Q: How do you use SocialBookmarkIt.com?

A. There are two methods to use this site. You can either link directly to our SocialBookmarkIt page through the free code provided, or you can create an account which gives you more control over the look of your SocialBookmarkIt page and allows you to track your bookmark statistics.

Q. What sites can link to SocialBookmarkIt.com?

A. Any site, except those that:

(i) violate or potentially violate any right of any third parties, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, trade secrets, or other proprietary rights;
(ii) constitute or potentially constitute violations, including false advertisement, unfair competition, defamation, invasion of privacy, invasion of rights, and discrimination;

See our Terms of Use for details.

Q: If I use the free code, can I create an account later?

A. Yes, but you will need to replace your existing code with code generated from your new account. Also, statistics will only begin tracking after you create your account.

Q: Is this service really free?

A. Yes. We only require a valid email address in order to create an account.

Q. What type of activity reporting is available with my account?

A. You will be able to track how many times your site was social bookmarked, how many times particular pages were social bookmarked, and your site's most popular social bookmark site.

Q. So the reports will tell me exactly how many times an article or page was submitted to a particular bookmarking site.

A. Sort of.. We can track how many times a social bookmark site link was accessed for a page, but we can't really tell you if the visitor actually ended up submitting the page to the site. The click-through is logged with the presumption that the page was submitted.

Q. Can I edit the generated link or button code?

A. Yes, you can. You can even change the image or text through which you would link. The only restraint is that you must keep all the link variables intact for the link to work properly. If you break the link code, you can always regenerate it from your account.

Q. Can I change the look of the SocialBookmarkIt.com link page?

A. Yes, you can if you have an account. You can change the header image by specifying a new image (with a full http:// URL) in your site setup. You can also edit the style sheet code to match your site's fonts, colors, etc. With a little configuration, you can make your SocialBookmarkIt page blend seamlessly with the rest of your website.

Q. What is CSS? What if I mess up the CSS?

A. CSS stands for "Cascading Style Sheet" it is what's used to control the colors, fonts, etc, of your SocialBookmarkIt page. You can leave it as is or change it. If you mess up your CSS, simply click the 'default style' button to the right of the CSS code box. That will replace your current CSS code with the original code. Then save your changes and you are all set.

Q. What about the advertising?

A. SocialBookmarkIt.com displays ads to users of our free service. Site advertising is necessary for us to maintain and grow the service. In the future, we may have a paid service that will eliminate ads and provide additional features.

Q. What about privacy issues?

A. Account logs track three things: 1) the website where the click came from, 2) the page that was bookmarked, and 3) the social bookmarking site bookmarked to. We do NOT keep, store, or have an interest in any particular user information.

Q. I have an idea to improve the service/there's a feature I'd like to see.

A. Let us know! If the idea is good, we'll probably add it to the service.

Q. Where can I sign up for an account?

A. You can Sign up here!
